Tomorrow , Friday 11 March 2016 at 12h00, join the demonstration at the Honduran embassy in Brussels, demanding justice for the murdered environmental and indigenous rights activist Berta Cáceres!
We will also demand that the Honduran government takes urgent action to protect Gustavo Castro Soto, an internationally-renowned Mexican activist and the only witness to her assassination, and to ensure his safe passage back to Mexico.
Berta was shot dead by gunmen on 2 March, 2016. Over the years she had received multiple death threats because of her work defending indigenous Lenca land against the Agua Zarca dam project in Río Blanco.
Gustavo, who barely escaped Berta’s attackers, has attempted to return to Mexico for protection but is being prevented by the Honduran authorities from leaving the country. His life is under imminent threat.
Join us to stand in solidarity for human rights and respect for life, and to demand:
• Justice for Berta and an immediate end to state sanctioned violence against environmental and human rights defenders and indigenous people in Honduras
•An independent investigation into Berta’s assassination, with international judges and experts, along with guaranteed protection for her family and colleagues
•Safe passage for Gustavo to Mexico
